Bihar Introduces a New Scheme for Womens Employment
The Bihar government has launched the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana to promote women’s economic independence. Under this program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first instalment of ₹7,500 crore, benefiting 75 lakh women.
The scheme encourages women in both villages and cities to start their own businesses. Its main goal is to create more job opportunities and strengthen Bihar’s economy.

Key Features of the Scheme
Under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, eligible women receive ₹10,000 as financial assistance, which is given as a grant and does not need to be repaid.
The scheme is open to women between 18 and 60 years of age, especially those from economically weaker sections.
Special preference is given to women who do not have a stable source of income or a permanent job. Unmarried women who have lost their parents can also apply.
In addition, the scheme benefits members of Jeevika Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as well as women from nuclear families.
Process and Execution
So far, the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana has received over 1.11 crore applications. In rural areas, the scheme is managed by the Rural Development Department, while in cities it is handled by the Urban Development Department.
To promote awareness and participation, District Magistrates have been directed to hold events at the district, block, cluster, and village levels.
These gatherings encourage active involvement of women and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The scheme officially received approval from the Bihar State Cabinet on August 29.

Economic Support & Tracking
Under this scheme, women receive an initial grant of ₹10,000 to begin their small businesses. After six months, a review of their progress is conducted.
Based on performance, selected women entrepreneurs can get an additional grant of up to ₹2 lakh. This follow-up assistance is designed to ensure steady business growth and promote long-term economic independence for women.
