India and Singapore agree to expand cooperation

India and Singapore renewed their strong and growing ties at the 3rd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) in New Delhi. Senior ministers from both countries discussed key areas of cooperation, building on the solid base of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The forum showcased their shared commitment to regional development, innovation, and closer strategic coordination in the Indo-Pacific region.

Top Leaders Meet with a Shared Strategic Vision

India’s delegation was led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, joined by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Railways & Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Representing Singapore, Deputy Prime Minister and Trade & Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong headed their team.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the need for close cooperation between government and industry to power the next phase of the India-Singapore partnership.

He also mentioned engaging discussions with members of the India-Singapore Business Roundtable (ISBR), which further strengthened trade and investment talks.

Six Key Areas of Cooperation Under ISMR

The Ministerial Roundtable focused on six main pillars to strengthen cooperation between India and Singapore:

  1. Digitalization – Working together in fintech, digital public infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
  2. Skill Development – Building a future-ready workforce through joint training and tech-based education.
  3. Sustainability – Partnering on climate resilience, renewable energy, and green finance.
  4. Healthcare and Medicine – Boosting pharmaceutical trade and driving healthcare innovations.
  5. Advanced Manufacturing – Encouraging innovation and technology exchange in high-tech industries.
  6. Connectivity – Expanding physical, digital, and people-to-people connections between both nations.

These focus areas align with the national priorities of both countries and their shared global vision, especially in building a strong and cooperative Indo-Pacific framework.

The Bigger Strategic Picture

The roundtable holds special importance as Singapore is a key partner in India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and Indo-Pacific strategy.
The two nations already share close ties in trade, investment, defence, education, and cultural exchange. Singapore ranks among India’s largest foreign investors and serves as a gateway to ASEAN markets.

The India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable is more than just a discussion forum, it’s a strategic platform for setting future agendas.
It plays a key role in shaping new avenues of cooperation in today’s fast-changing global landscape.
