After the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Sunday, Mithun Manhas officially became the new President of the BCCI, taking charge of Indian cricket.

On Sunday, September 28, Mithun Manhas was officially appointed as the new BCCI President during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai. Taking over from Roger Binny, Manhas now carries the responsibility of leading Indian cricket with a focus on growth, performance, and innovation.

Along with Mithun Manhas, Rajeev Shukla was named as the vice-president, adding his rich experience in cricket administration and planning. Devajit Saikia took charge as the new secretary, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia became the joint secretary. The responsibility of treasurer was given to A. Raghuram Bhat, who will oversee the board’s finances with efficiency and transparency.

Rise to BCCI Presidency

The BCCI leadership was further reinforced with Jaydev Niranjan Shah elected as the sole Apex Council member, responsible for shaping key policies.

Additionally, Arun Singh Dhumal and M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar joined the Governing Council, which manages larger initiatives in Indian cricket. With their combined expertise, the council is expected to strengthen strategic decisions and boost development programs at every level of the game.

Who is BCCI President Mithun Manhas

Mithun Manhas, born on October 12, 1979, in Jammu and Kashmir, made a mark in Indian domestic cricket without representing the national side. He was known for his all-round skills, right-handed batting, occasional off-spin, and wicketkeeping when required.

Mithun Manhas often took charge of Delhi as captain when senior players were away for international matches. During this time, he guided the team and shared a special bond with a young Virat Kohli making his debut.

Early Life and Domestic Cricket Career

During his 18-year first-class career, Mithun Manhas played 157 matches, scoring 9,714 runs at an average close to 46. He recorded 27 centuries and 49 fifties, with his best season in 2007-08, when he led Delhi to a Ranji Trophy victory, scoring 921 runs at an impressive average of 57.56.

Mithun Manhas’s IPL career included stints with three franchises after his domestic cricket with Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. He started with Delhi Daredevils from 2008 to 2010, then played for Pune Warriors between 2011 and 2013, and finally joined Chennai Super Kings in 2014.

Mithun Manhas is the first person from Jammu and Kashmir to become the BCCI President. It is worth noting that the BCCI was established in 1928, and in its 97-year history, no one from Jammu and Kashmir has ever held the top position before.
